Norwich Young Voices has a strong educational ethos. The choir uses the Voice for Life scheme designed by the RSCM to teach its members to sing with good vocal technique and to improve musical skills such as aural training and music reading.

When a new member joins the choir he/she is given a White Level target card. The new member then works through the targets listed on the card, towards becoming a full member of the choir and to receive the White Level lapel badge. After having achieved the White Level, the student then begins working towards the remaining Voice for Life badges: Light Blue, Dark Blue, Red & Yellow, by working through booklets which are provided. Exercises within the booklet are covered in the rehearsal sessions and can be practised at home.

Students who are working towards the higher levels are involved in helping to train the younger more inexperienced singers.
